Searching, sorting and paging
Narrow down large lists to what matters.
Before you start
What the list can do
planni shows contacts and companies each as a list with search, sorting and an adjustable page size. Both lists use the same table component, only the searched fields and the visible columns differ.
Searching contacts and companies
What the search looks at
On the contacts list, the search covers first name, last name and email address at once. On the companies list, it covers the company name. Part of the value you are looking for is enough, and case does not matter: "eyer" also finds "Meyer".
The search matches substrings, not a fuzzy, phonetic or AI-powered search. A typo in the name you are searching for will not return a result.
Entering several words separated by spaces widens the results instead of narrowing them: planni finds contacts where at least one of the words appears in one of the searched fields. "Anna Meyer" therefore also finds contacts named only "Anna" or only "Meyer", not exclusively contacts that carry both names.
How to search
Click the magnifying glass icon in the top right of the list, the search box slides in. Type your search term, planni filters the results shortly after you stop typing, with nothing extra to confirm. Click the X to clear the field again.
Sorting
Sorting by a column
Click a column header to sort the list by it, click again to reverse the direction.
Adjusting columns
Which columns you see
The contacts list shows name and email address, the companies list shows the company name, plus a column with the row actions in each case. This selection is currently fixed, it cannot be shown or hidden.
Changing column width
What you can adjust is the width: drag the edge between two column headers to make a column wider or narrower. This helps, for example, when long names or email addresses get cut off.
Page size and paging
Entries per page
At the bottom of the list you set the number of entries per page, choosing between 10, 25, 50 and 100. With more than one page, page through using the page numbers below it, and the footer also shows which slice of the total you are currently viewing.
When something does not work
The search finds nothing, even though I know the entry exists
Check that you are searching the right list: a company name returns no result on the contacts list, and the companies list will not find contacts by their name either. Open the matching company instead and look for the contact in its linked list. Also check the spelling, since the search only matches substrings.
I want to reset search and sorting
The reset icon in the bottom left of the list returns the search text, sorting and page to their starting state.
