Cancel an order

Withdraw an order and what happens with linked invoices when you do.

Before you start

What "Canceling" means

Canceling sets an order's status to Storniert (Canceled), see Understanding an order. You cancel either directly in the order list through the status chip, or in the order's detail view, both lead to the same status.

Cancel an order

Step by step

Open the order and click the status chip at the top.

Choose "Storniert" (Canceled) from the menu.

Confirm in the dialog. If this order already has one or more invoices, the dialog also offers to handle them right away: drafts are deleted, finalized invoices are canceled and automatically get a credit note. Confirm with Bestellung stornieren (Cancel order).

Result

The order status switches to Canceled. If you left the option to also handle invoices turned on, the linked invoices are treated accordingly, more on this under Invoices.

The dialog states this action cannot be undone. Check beforehand that it really is this order.

What does NOT happen automatically

Attendee slots and capacity

Canceling an order does not automatically change attendance at a linked event and does not free up capacity. If a slot should become free again, remove or cancel the affected registration separately under Manage attendees.

Payment

The order's payment status does not change by itself when you cancel. Whether and how a payment is refunded is something you decide and record separately, by adjusting the payment status on the order manually.

Pitfalls

I canceled by accident

The same status chip lets you set the order status back to Open or Confirmed. That only undoes the order status itself, not any further steps you may have triggered in the meantime, such as attendee slots, payment or invoices already canceled.

Canceling from the list doesn't ask about invoices

The prompt for linked invoices only appears when you cancel from the order's detail view. Changing the status directly in the list only sets the order status, without touching linked invoices.
